Why does everyone hate the Avenger? I know it's not the best car. It's not even the most well appointed. But it's decent transportation, looks good, and with the Pentastar, as the FP article pointed out, pretty stout off the line. What gives?

I think there's a lot of Mopar hate around here.

Standard response to a Dodge "also-ran" car. It's a fleet rental at best since they've never really done anything cool with it, and if you're going to get a Dodge for performance it would make sense to look at a Charger or Challenger.

Its not that good looking, for much of its life pre-PentastarV6 it was pretty underpowered, the chassis dynamics are pretty garbage and for the same money you can have a much better vehicle.
Also, its basically a Sebring. A more-base-model Sebring. The platform of which debuted in 1994. And was considered one of the worst cars ever before they updated to the 200.

Having driven the Avenger, the criticism is justified.
/Haven't driven one with the V6

Dodge in general is pretty overlooked. Mostly because what they make is junk. Good looking but junk. As a former Dodge Dakota owner, I can confirm.

True, but let's be honest, Chrysler has produced some very mediocre cars since 1980. Even when compared to whatever its American competition was at the time.

Seems to be.
Got a wave and a thumbs up from an Avenger driver last night while heading home in my Dart

It's adequate, but that's all it is. There isn't utter crap out there for sale like there was in the 70s and 80s so just adequate doesn't really cut it anymore. It's just plain worse than its competitors.

This about covers it.

Yours was an automatic I take it.

Yup, automatic with the dreadful v6. And a 4x4 system that didn't work. I got stuck. In 2 inches of snow.

Ugly.
Drive like poo.
Can't see out of them because the roofline is too low.
My lovely car was the victim of a hit and run perpetrated by one.
FUCK ALL AVENGERS.

I've always liked the way it looked, personally. My girlfriend's mom drives a bright red '09 R/T with the 3.5 V6. The inside is a plastic mess, but there were some neat toys offered on it. I've never heard of another car with a fridge in the dashboard. And the 3.5 pulls pretty well.

Damn, that sucks. We've had a 1997 Dakota 2wd 5.2, a 2007 2500 4x4 HEMI, 1998 1500 4x4 5.9 and currently a 1995 Dakota 4x4 5.2 5 speed. Other than their shitty shitty automatic transmissions, haven't had any issues of note.

ive always thought they looked GOOD. I dont know if it came with a manual, but i'm going to assume the 3.6L penastar does. if it had a better interior, or was RWD, id SERIOUSLY consider it.

so your car must be...
avenged?

They never came with a manual unfortunately. Dodge has a really bad habit of not putting manuals in the cars that deserve them.

ok, and it all went south for that car. (still looks ok though)
